A three week old Red Panda baby died of pneumonia at Sacramento Zoo (USA) on Monday.
The female cub was neglected by the seven-year-old mother Pili, which is why the animal keepers had to intervene and look after the Red Panda baby at the Veterinary Hospital of the zoo around the clock.
High mortality rate
Unfortunately, the cub developed pneumonia last week. Despite treatment with antibiotics and oxygen, the life of the Red Panda could no longer be saved.
Red Pandas have a very high mortality rate – only about 50 percent survive the first month.
