On June 18 a Red Panda cub was born at Oregon Zoo in Portland.
Mother Mei Mei and her offspring are doing well. They stay in their den, while animal-care staff are monitoring both via a surveillance camera.
“There’s still a lot that could happen, so we’re cautious and giving her as much privacy as possible”, animal curator Amy Cutting is quoted in the offical statement of the zoo.

The Red Panda baby is not the first offspring for Mei Mei and father Mushu. The pair, which moved to Oregon last year, produced two cubs at the Nashville Zoo in 2017.
