The Sacramento Zoo in California welcomes a new Red Panda offspring. On June 24, the four-year-old female panda Amaya gave birth to two cubs. The father is a Red Panda named David Bowie.
One cub survived
Unfortunately, one of the babies did not survive the first days. The mortality rate for Red Pandas in the first month of life is almost 50%.
In addition to the mother and her baby, the Sacramento Zoo is home to the Red panda pair Pili and Takeo as well as Amaya’s son Gizmo – his name also underlines the preference for pop-cultural references.
