Yukiko at Woodland Park Zoo passed away

Woodland Park Zoo’s Red Panda Yukiko had to be euthanized on Monday. He suffered from advanced cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle. Yukiko was 16 years old — a remarkable age for a Red Panda.

Yukiko was born in Saitama, Japan, and then lived at the Red River Zoo in Fargo, North Dakota, USA. In 2014, he moved to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.

The Red Panda was the father of a total of 11 cubs.

Woodland Park Zoo is also home to two other Red Pandas. Social media darling Carson, a 7-year-old male Red Panda, and one-year-old Zan, who currently lives in an area not visible to visitors.
