On April 14, 2025, the Nepalese New Year (2082 BS), the first Red Panda and Tahr Festival was held in Khotang, a district in eastern Nepal.
Organized by the Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the two-day event aimed to raise awareness about the conservation of endangered wildlife, particularly the Red Panda and Himalayan Tahr. The festival featured cultural performances and promoted ecotourism, says the Himalayan Times.
The festival also saw the inauguration of the new ‘Mundum Trail Red Panda-Tahr Route’, a trekking trail designed to promote ecotourism in the region.
