In June, two Red Pandas were born at Tierpark Berlin – as reported by Red Pandazine. Now, the first veterinary check-up has taken place.

Rosie, the mother of the cubs, is still not letting them out of her sight. “She is a very cautious mother. This is the first time she is raising offspring,” explains curator Maren Siebert in a statement released by the zoo.

The larger cub weighs 1.22 kilograms and is a male, while the smaller sibling weighs 1.19 kilograms and is a female.

Zoo and Tierpark director Dr. Andreas Knieriem calls it “a great success for the breeding program.”

Rosie and the cubs’ father Joel came to Berlin as part of an international conservation breeding program (EEP).
