According to the Red Panda Network there are now 218 Red Pandas in Mechi, a zone in the east of Nepal. 134 of them are found in the district of Taplejung.
The protection of the Red Panda in this region faces many challenges. Attack from stray dogs, dangerous motor roads, farming und deforestation are one some of the threats for this animal.
